Unique teaching opportunity

There is a unique position available at one of our network schools.

Position: Teacher at Wiluna Remote Community School

The school and community

Wiluna is a culturally special and historically unique place, surrounded by desert, waterways and cultural areas. We are situated 1000km north east of Perth and 550 km north of Kalgoorlie. The Wiluna Remote Community School(RCS) caters for four year olds to Year 12 and has a population of about 80 students. Students are multilingual and so we teach using English as an additional language or dialect pedagogy.

Our school staff are committed to connecting learning to the Martu Calendar, our local curriculum. The Calendar was created by local families over the last few years, and ensures that learning is connected to country and culture.  We align the WA Curriculum to the Calendar and ensure that learning is two-way, building on Martu and Western knowledge and language.

Our Bush Ranger program feeds into our VET program, which specialise in skills related to land management and rural operations. In 2019 we are looking to begin the implementation of Big Picture Education.

The role:

We are looking for a teacher who can teach from K-12 to back-fill a position for 6 months (perhaps longer).  A teacher who can work across the school (Kindergarten to Year 12) in a specialist area.  Currently this is cooking and gardening which we prefer. However we recognise that this is a niche area, and could consider other specialist areas if needed.  Teachers need to be confident in managing behaviours, classroom organisation and working cross-culturally. Teachers with BPE training/experience will be able to run the kind of engaging program we need and would help us implement BPE.

The attractive financial package includes free housing and relocation, and travel concessions.
