The Work of a BPL School Coach: An Introduction - WA

Registration is closed for this event
An opportunity for colleagues in Western Australia to take part in the school coach program. In BPLA the role of the School Coach is vital for ensuring fidelity to the BPL design while nurturing each school’s unique interpretation of the design in their context.

Implementing the Big Picture Learning design in schools takes time: it involves deep change to thinking and practice for leaders, teachers and those that work with schools. These changes need to be supported by changes to structure and culture.

This course will be a step in the process for those wanting to become a BPLA School Coach.

Who is it for?

  • Do you have experience implementing the BPL design, building relationships and seeing students through to graduation?
  • Are you looking to engage with the design in more depth?
  • Do you seek to mentor others and/or become a stronger leader in your academy or school?
  • Do you wish to develop your own capabilities as a BPLA school coach?
  • Are you simply interested in learning more about coaching in educational settings?

This course is suited to Principals, Deputy Principals, Head Teachers, Academy/Team Leaders, Lead Advisors, Advisors and those who already work with schools.

What is involved?

  • 2 x 2-day face to face workshops in Fremantle
  • 2 x online workshops in semester 2 (the first will be in term 3)

Participants will explore different interpretations of the role of School Coach, look at a number of different frameworks and approaches to the role of coach, practice helping others explore issues, practice observation of school and classroom action, and look at a day in the life of a BPL School Coach.
The group will be encouraged to keep connected with each other between online workshops and use each other as ‘critical friends.’ The Course Facilitator(s) will make contact with each participant between the workshops to provide support and advice when and where required. The work will include problem solving around particular issues from each participant’s practice and with a focus on learning from experience.

The course will be led by John Hogan, Co-Founder BPLA and members of the current BPLA Coaching Team.
