Yulebrook College's Big Ideas
Yule Brook College, in the Eastern suburbs of Perth, was like many other schools facing complex educational challenges.
This is the story of how teachers, students and parents take on big ideas to produce better learning for everyone.
Yule Brook College, Maddington, Western Australia uses the Big Picture philosophy of education to create learning that is unique for each student. One Student at a time…in a community of learners.
The ‘system’ of Big Picture is flexible enough to tailor make learning for each and every student. Individual learning plans are based on the interests of each student.Students learn through internships in the community – they learn beside people who are already doing what the student really wants to do – photography, horticulture, finance, cooking, medicine and so on. Teachers support, coach and teach. Parents are involved.
The aim is to inspire the students to successfully graduate from school, achieve well in further learning and become productive citizens.
