Thornlie Senior High Big Picture Academy

Thornlie Senior High School, established in 1971, is situated 16 kilometres from Perth in the Canning Education District. A comprehensive senior high school catering for students from Year 8 to Year 12, Thornlie SHS is an Information Technology Focus School, a Specialist Sports School (Swimming and Rugby), and a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) under the auspices of the Australian Quality Training Framework.
Thornlie is a Big Picture Inspired school; it joined Big Picture Education Australia in 2009.
The Big Picture Academy operates as an off-site senior school program. There are eight students involved, all in year 11. The intention is to have up to fifteen students once the school ‘shed’ is built. The Big Picture Academy of Thornlie Senior High currently works in a back room at the local church.
2010 is their first year of operation, so all participants are on a major learning journey together. This semester they are focusing on moving our learning into the wider world; travelling, following in the footsteps of settlers and explorers, creating our own journals of travel and exploration.
