Prospect High School
Location
Prospect High School has been Big Picture Inspired since 2006. Prospect High School has a grade seven to ten enrolment of approximately six hundred students. Prospect High School is a community of learners preparing students for successful participation in a world of their time through deep understanding of important life related matters. Relationships, relevance and rigour are fundamentals guiding how we lead the learning. Linking students to applied and authentic learning experiences within and beyond the school is a distinguishing principle of our learning environments. The goal is to set up every student for success.
Knowing that one model will not fit all students we are evolving sustainable and scalable personalized learning models that embed many of the Big Picture Education distinguishers. Many students have extended time with one key teacher in an area of interest and passion. Students are linked to mentors in the community for authentic learning experiences alongside an expert. Community placements become the focus and inspiration for school based learning and inquiry projects. Students regularly demonstrate what they have learnt and plan to learn through regular exhibitions. There are many variations on the theme of personalization all with elements of the Big Picture Education distinguishers. A personalized learning team of seven staff meet regularly in a professional learning community to share and progress our practice and provision. At the present time the most innovative and advanced learning models are accessed predominately by grade nine and ten students. It aims to expand personalized learning experiences across grade seven to ten. One of its immediate challenges is to ensure sustainability of all personalized learning endeavours.
