Ogilvie High School
Location
Situated in New Town, a leafy suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Ogilvie High School is a large, all girls public high school accepting students into grades 7 to 10. The school enrolls a diverse range of students living in a number of different Hobart suburbs as well as country areas. Established in 1937, it is the only public all girls school in the state. It is a school with a rich history of academic, sporting and cultural excellence.
Ogilvie has a Big Picture School within a traditional school; it joined Big Picture Education Australia in January 2009.
Ogilvie’s Big Picture program has grown during the past two years and now, in 2011, has 4 advisory groups – 2 grade 9s and 2 grade 10s. The girls and their parent/carers complete an application; attend an information evening and an interview, before joining the program. Students spend 15 to 20 hours a week involved in their Big Picture Advisory. In addition, they may choose between one and three subjects offered on the regular school timetable. Advisory Groups have between 15 to 18 students working with an advisory teacher in recently upgraded, good sized classroom spaces.
