Location
Jordan River Learning Federation is a State Government coeducational high school for students in years 7 to 10. It is located in an urban setting at Bridgewater, near the urban-rural fringe of Hobart, Tasmania, in the Municipality of Brighton. The school has its own school farm, 'Summerville', in the nearby town of Brighton.
Jordan River Learning Federation is a Conversion/Exhibition Big Picture School; it joined Big Picture Education Australia in January 2010.
The Big Picture Pilot program began at the start of 2010 with sixty-two year 9 students the school aims to include year 10, 11 and 12 over time. There are 4 advisory groups – two of 15 students and 2 of 16 students each working with one advisor teacher.
Advisories work on Big Picture learning all week except for Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and all day Friday. This time is used for option classes. During this time BP staff members meet to plan together. Each advisory group also includes 4 periods of mathematics and these classes are held in advisories.
Planning for student shadow days is currently underway. Individual Learning Plans are being developed for each student. Jordan River Learning Federation is planning to hold student Exhibitions both midyear and at the end of year.
