Join us on Tuesday October 11th at Cooks Hill Campus, Cnr. Union St and Laman St, Cooks Hill, for keynote and workshop with Dr Elliot Washor.
Background
Elliot Washor co-founded Big Picture Learning (BPL) and the Met Center in Providence, Rhode Island. BPL – now a network of 80 schools in the US - has been recognised by President Barack Obama and cited internationally as one of the most innovative high school designs in the world; one which should serve as an example to any educator focusing their efforts on student-centred, real-world learning.
Elliot looks at all levels of school design in urban and remote settings and is interested in how schools connect with communities to better understand how students (and adults) learn both inside and outside formal education settings. Elliot will speak of his research into the reasons why students disengage from school and what can be done to prevent disengagement as well as providing participants with ideas to re-engage those already withdrawn.
Join Elliot as he explores student voice and student interests and their relationships with adults around those interests that lead to high degrees of student engagement and then to deeper learning.
Any school leader or teacher grappling with how to engage young people to go deeper with their learning will find Elliot’s presentation(s) thought-provoking, inspiring and practical.
