The Big Picture Leadership Course USA January 2013
AN INVITATION TO ‘DIVE IN DEEPER' TO LEAD LEARNING
Learn to Lead
Elliot Washor, Viv White and John Hogan invite you to participate in an exciting Big Picture leadership course to be held in the USA in January 2013.
We Need You
We invite you to join this course because of your commitment to Big Picture principles, your willingness to be involved in the Big Picture network, the leadership role you already play in Big Picture and the possibility that you might want to play a leadership role into the future.
The Course
The aim of our course is to strengthen our capacity as leaders of this transformational reform, this Big Picture learning.
We'll visit and work in 3 different schools and learn how to strengthen the design and academic learning.
On Monday, January 13th, we will begin at the MUSE school, an elementary and middle school, where Elliot is working to strengthen their design. The school is located about 50 km from LA about 15 km from the Malibu coast.
EVERYONE IS A LEADER
We will then move to the New Village Charter School, a recently established BP girls' school in LA city. Here we will explore issues around starting up.
Finally we will move on to an established school the San Diego Met where we will examine the notion of longevity and innovation.
The course is a weeklong investigation of Big Picture.
You can extend your stay to visit additional BP schools in other contexts in the US. For example, you can visit other BP schools in California such as The SacMet in Sacramento, The Lafayette BP School and the Onondaga Nation School in Lafayette in the state of New York, The Newark Innovation Academy BP Schools, the Nashville BP School and/or The Met in Providence, Rhode Island. BPEA will help you organise school visits and will coordinate as a group if sufficient people are interested.
The costs
The cost of the course will be $3 000. We estimate the costs for travel at $2 600 and accommodation at $1 200, making the total cost around $6 800
At this stage, there is no funding to underwrite this work.
The Opportunity
The BP design for school is having an impact. In Australia we are making significant inroads into schools and systems, exploring the BP design in many and different settings. Students are re-engaging in learning and transforming their lives. Teachers, leaders and families are too.
Across the world the BP design has been noticed. It is identified by influential education experts as one of the big ideas for schools this century and many elements of the BP design have been described amongst the 10 big ideas for 21st century learning. The President Obama has praised the original MET school in Providence Rhode Island and Big Picture Learning. Explorations of the Big Picture model are starting out in new countries - from Bulgaria to Turkey to China.
As the work evolves we need to develop the leaders required to deepen our work.
