This half day workshop with, Steve Bingler and Elliot Washor is for school designers/architects, systems leaders and teachers who would like to explore the idea of schools as centres of community. It is aimed at those interested in learning more about Big Picture in general, and the connection between school design and learning.

At the conference, Big Picture will launch Big Picture Education Australia and celebrate the work of the first three Australian Big Picture and Big Picture Inspired Schools;

Major Guests
Elliot Washor, Ed.D. is the co-founder and co-director of Big Picture Learning. He is also the co-founder of The Met Center in Providence, RI. Elliot’s interests lie in the field of how schools can connect with communities to understand tacit and disciplinary learning both in and outside of school. He has recently been selected as one of the Daring Dozen – the Twelve Most Daring Educators in the World by the George Lucas Educational Foundation.
Steve Bingler has undertaken projects focused principally on the planning and design of environments for living and learning. He served as a special consultant to the Office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education for policy related to the design of schools as centers of the community. Additionally, Steven frequently speaks at national symposia and conferences related to innovations in community-based and small school planning and design.
Viv White is the Founder and CEO of the Big Picture Education Australia. Viv was CEO of the Victorian Schools Innovation Commission (VSIC) and the Australian National Schools Network (ANSN). Big Picture is her passion. She has worked with Australian schools for thirty years as a policy activist, teacher, university researcher and facilitator of change and improvement.
Angela Bird has been in education in Tasmania for 30 years. Her experience spans all sectors K-12 and she has had positions in curriculum and professional learning. As principal of Claremont High School she became interested in Big Picture Education and over a three period restructured the grade 9-10 program to reflect BP principles.
